Gerton is a small unincorporated community in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. It is located in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and is approximately 20 miles southeast of Asheville. The community is situated along US Highway 74A, which runs between Asheville and Chimney Rock.
Gerton has a very small population and is primarily a residential community. There are a few small businesses in the area, including a convenience store and a few restaurants, but most residents travel to nearby cities for work and other services. The community is known for its rural, mountainous setting and for being a popular destination for outdoor recreation, including hiking, fishing, and camping.
The area was originally settled in the mid-19th century and was named after J.J. Gerton, a local merchant. Today, Gerton is part of the larger Hendersonville Metropolitan Area and enjoys a peaceful, rural way of life.
